Director Notes :

The Outcast is a very complex but not a bell made performing text. This is an Autobiography, so the text demands the different kind of Performance Treatment. Every text has own complex and they demand an objective performing language. The outcast basically dehumanizing impact of caste Oppression in Hindu society and the narrator is haunted by the question of his fractured identity. As I already mentioned it is not novel, story and even not a play. It is purely an autobiography. It open so many ways for our creativeness. It makes us realize the atrocious life of people living in re-motive areas of India The suffering of “sharan Kumar” writer of this autobiography is not only his suffering, it is meant to all millions of people who fight for their self-respect and dignity. Their live may have different references but the pain, agony and suffering remain the same. It is not only the question of the writer, it is the question of our ethics, society, religion, caste and more our values which is directly involve with our cruel system and they off course not expect anyone’s sympathy, even these questions create anger and our irritation for our system.

About the Play :

The Outcast is an autobiography of SHARANKUMAR LIMBALE. The Text Deals with the Anguish and irreverence of the cultural ferment that opened up the Marathi literature to Dalit writings. As a first-person account of the struggle against poverty, deprivation, Discrimination and violence, The Outcaste captures the dehumanizing impact of caste Oppression in Hindu society. In tracing the author's gradual awakening to selfhood and Maturity, the play provides an inside view of life in a “Mahar village”. Moving bleak, its Narrative punctured by bitter wit, this is a revelatory Novel for people who are not on the Uncomfortable periphery of social and economic life In India. The narrator is haunted by the question of his fractured identity, “Am I an upper caste or an untouchable?” A Reflection of the darker side of India, this novel is a bitter Critique of the lack of Compassion that the lower castes have endured for centuries. A true milestone that publicized the Dalit cause, the Marathi original went through four editions. An Acknowledged masterpiece in the Mahar dialect, The Outcaste asserts the Dalit inner quest for identity using original language, idiom, metaphor and imagery.

About Writer

SHARANKUMAR LIMBALE

What is it like to grow up as an impoverished outcaste in modern India? Perhaps the best way to find out is through the words and emotions of those who have lived through the experience and who have the education and talent to write so expressively about it. One obvious source is Sharakumar Limbale's recent autobiography, The Outcaste Akkarmashi. Limbale is a well-known Dalit activist writer, editor, and critic who has worked successfully with several literary genres and is the author of some 24 books and who serve as the Regional Director of the Yashwantrao Chavan Mararashtra Open University, Nasik in India
